How to configure data usage limit on Windows 10
Hey guys I have picked a bunch of Quora answers which would probably solve your problem
so have a look and you will surely get benefit with it
If you're using an internet connection with a limited data plan, you can set limits for a Wi-Fi or Ethernet network adapter to allow Windows 10 to monitor, restrict unnecessary usage, and provide notifications to help you avoid going over your plan. Here's how using the Data Usage settings:
- Open Settings.
- Click on Network & Internet.
- Click on Data Usage.
- Use the "Show settings for" drop-down menu, and select the wireless or wired network adapter to want to restrict.
- Under "Data limit," click the Set limit button.
- Select the limit type you want to use...
Windows 10 has massive bandwidth issues and decreased internet speeds due to various background, data synchronisation services, which consume huge system resources including the network bandwidth due to poorly optimised settings.
1. Disable Windows Update
2. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > Advanced Options and then change the "Choose how updates are delivered" setting to one of the following:
- Turn off the p2p file transfer completely
- Limit the p2p transfer to PCs on your local network
3. Limit reservable bandwidth
Search for "EDIT GROUP POLICY" in start and open it
Now you have the Local Group Policy Editor
- Locate to
Computer Configuration>Administrative Templates
- Locate “ALL Settings” & open it. Once it is open, scroll down & locate
"Limit Reservable Bandwidth"
- Select "LIMIT RESERVABLE BANDWIDTH"
- a new box will appear
- Select Enabled
- Set it to 0 and APPLY.
I this doesn't works and first now the cause
Windows 10 uses a lot of data, I can understand that.
Windows 10 constantly keeps checking for updates and it does update itself without asking for permission, it also keeps sending reports for better user experience.
These updates and user experience data costs alot of data.
You can use the following methods to reduce data as well as hardware power usage of windows 10 :
- Goto network settings from bottom right network icon in task bar, goto proxy settings and disable it. You have to do this one everytime you connect :( no permanent disable option for this one.
- Set metered connection to disable updates. To do that, goto network settings, select either WiFi, ethernet or mobile connection (whichever you are using), click on the connection name, and then tick set as metered connection checkbox.
- I don't recommend this one but you can open the services panel and disable windows update from there, permanently.
Or if you set the network you are using to a metered connection then it may reduce background data usage.
Go to Settings -> Network & Internet -> Wi-Fi -> Manage Known Networks
- Manage Known Networks
2. Choose your Connection -> Properties
3. Turn on Set as metered connection.
Thank
Windows update, Antivirus auto update, Auto driver update, Check other software installed on your system, if auto update is on (In case it is on turn it off)
*Besides you can add an ad-blocker extension to your browser to block unwanted ads and pop-ups .

Follow the screen shots below.

You are ready to go set these according turn them on when you have a terrible connection not recommended for regular or permanent use !
When you are downloading heavy files the just turn this on temporarily.
